Meet the team behind Helitech International 2016: Sian O’Neill, Conference Manager

This week we caught up with Sian O’Neill, Conference Manager at Helitech International to find out what will be different about this year’s show. She tells us more about the work that goes into the conference management side to not only ensure attendees make the most out of the show, but also how the team finalises logistics to make sure everything runs as smoothly as possible onsite.

Can you describe a day in the life of the Helitech International conference team?
Looking after all of the seminars and workshops means each day varies from the next, keeping it fresh and interesting. The majority of the time I can be found liaising with our speakers to finalise the programme and coordinate topics and timings. Onsite I am kept on my toes as I work with the operations team to arrange logistics for the seminar rooms ensuring a smooth running process throughout the event.

How would you sum up Helitech International in three words?
Informative, international, networking.

Why do you think someone should attend?
I’m slightly biased here, but I’m going to say the quality of the Seminar and Workshops programme. We pay close attention to the feedback we receive from visitors and exhibitors alike and this year we have restructured the 2016 programme to take on a more modular format that fits in around everybody’s busy schedules. We have a huge range of content on offer including a new dedicated networking Operators Forum, the annual Business Leaders Forum and a range of Insight Seminars focusing on key vertical markets such as HEMS, UAVs and SAR

These are all accompanied by the newly introduced Technical Workshops as well as the returning EHA Rotorcraft Seminars and Safety Workshop. These sessions offer all attendees exclusive knowledge-sharing platforms and valuable networking opportunities. Something not to be missed!

Which session are you most looking forward to?
I’m particularly excited to see the Technical Workshops. It’s the first year we’ve run them and we’ve got a fantastic range of sessions which will be delivered by leading businesses such as Airbus Helicopters, Leonardo Helicopters and Bell Helicopter. The agenda covers everything from how to leverage digitalisation to offer a personalised experience, to how technology contributes to safety. Attendees should walk away with several useful and actionable insights.

What’s the best thing about working as part of the Helitech International team?
We’re a very sociable, tight-knit team. Our joint fondness for cheese jokes and gin makes working with the team a true delight.

Who is your aviation hero?
Captain Eric ‘Winkle’ Brown, the most decorated pilot in the history of the Royal Navy and famed for flying a record number of aircraft (487), is an aviation legend. It was a true honour and privilege to meet him at Helitech International last year when he spoke during our seminar programme.

How did you get into working for the rotorcraft industry?
By accident really! I knew I always wanted to be in the event industry and pursuing this led me to also be involved with the rotorcraft industry. It’s an avenue I was excited to go down as it’s an industry I’ve become very passionate about. Who doesn’t love working with helicopters?
